In South Korea, the world’s first cloned dog, an Afghan hound will become a father next month in the first breeding of cloned canines. Snuppy, the cloned father successfully impregnated two cloned females of the same breed through artificial insemination. The puppies are expected to be born between May 16 and 20.

An Oregon man swears the dog he picked up from the boarding kennel is not his dog. However the kennel insists it is.
The problem arose when Ken Griggs left his black labrador Callie at a kennel for a week while he went on Spring break. When he came back, the dog he picked up looked like Callie but didn’t behave like Callie. Even the family cat, who loved Callie hissed at the impostor.
The owner of the kennel said Griggs has the right dog. But Callie’s vet examined the dog Griggs brought home and found evidence that it’s not Callie.
To make matters worse, there were 7 black labs boarded at the kennel when Callie was there. So it may be a case of a mix up. But the kennel owner & the other dog owners say no.

Dognapping used to be fairly rare. But now with the rise of designer “pocket pups” being sold for thousands of dollars, dognapping has proven to be quite lucrative.
And the dognappers know what they want. Toy breeds such as Chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers and Maltese are especially desirable because they can fetch as much as $2,500.
A common trick the dognappers use is to pose as potential buyers. Generally two or more people come to look at the dog, one distacts the breeder and the other takes the dog(s) and runs off. The same tactic happens in pet stores too.
Some dognappers will sell the dog, others will wait for a reward to make money.
Whatever you do, take precautions to safeguard your dog. Never leave it unattended, even if you’re just rushing in to grab a coffee. And be sure to microchip him/her. It’s one of the best ways to recover your dog.

MCCONNELSVILLE, Ohio (AP) — A dog warden accused of illegally dumping the bodies of euthanized dogs into a shallow grave in eastern Ohio has resigned.
Jeff Driggs has been on unpaid leave since March 31. After investigating the mass grave behind the Morgan County dog pound, Ohio EPA officials cited the county for illegal dumping and ordered the bodies transferred to a landfill.
County commissioners voted 2-1 Monday to ask Driggs to resign or be fired, with Commissioner Dean Cain opposing dismissal. A fellow commissioner says Cain is a former dog warden for the county.
In 2002, Driggs admitted shooting more than 600 dogs at the pound instead of euthanizing them with lethal injections. He has served as warden for 21 years.

Comedian and actor Dane Cook is an irresponsible dog owner (alledgedly). He doesn’t pick up after his dog (neither does his girlfriend) - according to his neighbors.
His neighbors are very upset with him and he’s received 3 notices warning him that he’ll be evicted from his apartment. His neighbors even claim to have him on video & his landlord has filed a complaint in court. Of course Dane denies the charges.

A stray dog in Chennai, India has been helping the local police by barking and chasing people who try to swim out too far in the water or go into dangerous territory.
The dog, now named Julie helps the local police patrol Marina Beach, day and night.
Since Julie’s been on the scene (which has been about one month), no one has drowned. The police are thinking of training other strays to chase off drug dealers and people up to no good off the beach as well.
