World’s Ugliest Dog Is A Looker

This year the World’s ugliest dog for 2009 isn’t a Chinese Crested (which are always right up there in the running). The winner of the 21st annual World’s Ugly Dog Contest 2009 is a boxer named Pabst (I’m guessing after the beer). See the video of him here…

Dog Returns After 7 Months on the Lam

Lady, a mix breed who had been adopted from a shelter 7 months ago ran away minutes after she got to her new Middletown, Connecticut home. It seems that Lady managed to survive on her own for all those months living off any food she could find. And she survived through a very tough winter.

But on Memorial Day Weekend, she grew tired living on her own & came out of hiding. But the woman who had adopted Lady 7 months earlier thought she was gone for good & had adopted a new dog. Her condo association only allows one dog, so Lady is in need of a new home.

Bedbug Sniffing Dog

I know someone who recently had an unfortunate problem with bed bugs. Seems it’s a big problem on the East coast. Too bad they didn’t have Dixie on the scene.
Dixie
Dixie the bed bug finding dog (a Beagle mix) works for Western Pest Serivces in the Maryland/DC area and goes into fancy hotels, apartment buildings, hospitals, nursing homes, college dorms and houses to sniff out the bugs.

Since she’s been trained exclusively on bed bugs her entire life — she’s excellent at her job and rarely misses. She may be the only dog of her kind in the USA.

Dog Protects Lost Toddler for 2 Days

A Missouri youngster wandered away from his family while on a hike in the Mark Twain National Forest. Little Joshua was lost for over 2 days in the wet & cold weather. Dr’s were puzzled as to how this young boy could survice for 52 hours. Turns out the family’s Great Pyrenesse dog was with the boy & kept him warm during the ordeal.

Speaking of Hero Dogs: Dog Saves Owner From Fire Only to Be Put Down

Brittney, the beloved 9-year-old American bulldog gave the last of her life to save her owner, Scott Seymore. There was a fire & she barked to awaken Scott. Both got out safely but sadly Brittney’s story doesn’t have a happy ending. Just 2 weeks before, Scott found out Brittney had cancer. Instead of putting her down, he kept her on medication to hopefully extend their time together. But after the fire she was so depressed that he finally had her put to sleep.

Dog Sings One Minute Waltz

This little dog actually has a very funny yowl (bark) & they’ve turned it into a song. It’s funny…especially if you’ve seen the original!

Responsible Dog Ownership Now A Law in California

Finally, responsible dog ownership has become a law all over the state of California (not just in selected cities). Senate Bill 250 (also known as the Pet Responsibility Act) has been approved by the California state Senate on a 21-16 vote. And it requires that adult pets (cats & dogs) be spayed or neutered. If you want to keep your dog or outdoor cat “au naturel,” you must obtain a permit.

Ironically the bill got it’s number because the state spends $250 million a year to house & eventually euthanize unwanted pets.
