TV Judge Judy Pirro has ruled that Precious the 5-legged dog was in a contract to go to a Coney Island animal “freak show” & she ruled in favor of the freak show owner for breach of contract with the dog’s original owner.

Summer, hot temps, cars & dogs do not go together. Many well meaning owners leave their dogs in their cars with the windows cracked when they do errands only to come back & find their dog dead. It happened to a contestant auditioning for the “American Idol” singing talent show. The terrier dog was left in the car in Denver on a 91 degree day. By the time the owner came back, the dog was dead.
Even cracking the windows is not enough to ventilate a hot car where the inside temperature can increase by 30 degrees in just half an hour. And it only takes a matter of 5-10 minutes on a hot day for a dog to wind up organ-damaged or dead.

The former NFL football star Michael Vick, who spent time in federal prison for dog fighting charges is now free to play with any football team that will take him. Several teams have already announced that they will NOT be taking Vick.
For all the outrage, Vick is not the first felon to play on a pro team.

An irate dog owner punched his neighbor for complaining about his barking dog. The punch thrown knocked the neighbor off balance & he hit his head on the sidewalk resulting in severe head injuries. The neighbor died from brain damage.
Ironically, the dog owner was no stranger to violence & had been charged with aggravated assault before.
This is why so many people want to kill the barking dog. But obviously in cases like this the owner is more of a nuisance (& dangerous) than the dog.

Camp Lejeune’s Marine Corp’s military base in Raleigh, NC has banned dogs including pit bulls and Rottweilers from military housing. About a year ago a three year old boy was bitten to death by a visiting Pit Bull. Twelve other states, several cities and towns that have adopted bans on specific breeds deemed dangerous.

In the state of Maryland, officials are cracking down on puppy mills & dog breeders. The House Bill 495 would limit the number of breeder dogs an owner could have to 50, would make it mandatory for the dogs to get at least 2 hours of exercise a day, and expand the size of the cages the dogs are kept in. Most dogs in puppy mills are breed continuously, and never get let out of their small, cramped cages. The measure calls for each violation to have a penalty of up to $1,000.
Akira, an 11-year-old Siberian husky who was caught on store surveillance tape shoplifting a rawhide bone was brought back to the store by her owners recently. The grocery store employees all identified Akira as the dog that stole the dog treat just before Christmas. Akira’s owners let her lose in the store & she made a beeline straight back to the scene (aisle) of the crime.
A 23 year old young man went into a Stanton, CA pet store with a friend 3 days before Christmas to get a puppy as a Christmas gift for his girlfriend. The friend distracted the pet store owner while the other young man stole a 3 month yellow lab puppy from its pen. The man was caught on the video surveillance camera, as was the accomplice. The tape was played all over the local news. No surprise, he was recognized. So he went back to the pet store to pay $1300 for the “Marley & Me” look-a-like. He was arrested when he showed up & taken to jail. His girlfriend had bonded with the dog so she went to the pet store & paid for the puppy. Some boyfriend! His girlfriend says he’s not bad…just stupid!
A dog in Murray, Utah was caught on camera shoplifting. He walked through the sliding doors of the Smith’s Food & Drug supermarket, walked straight to the dog food aisle & took a rawhide bone (worth $2.79). As he turned to walk out, he was confronted by the manager who told him to “drop it!” The dog ignored the manager & ran out the front door nowhere to be found.
In Sheboygan, Wisconsin, an 11 year old 120 pound border collie named Jiffy was found frozen to the sidewalk. Jiffy was let out the previous night to go pee. He is 60 overweight & couldn’t move because of his weight. Jiffy was freed & taken to the local animal shelter. Police issued an ordinance violation for animal neglect & prosecutors say a misdemeanor animal neglect charge could be filed Dec. 22, when Jiffy’s owner is scheduled to appear in court.
