Elwood, a 2-year-old Chinese Crested and Chihuahua mix, was crowned the World’s Ugliest Dog. Elwood, dark colored and hairless , except for a mohawk hairdoo, is often referred to as “Yoda,” or “ET,” because he resembles them. Most of the other competing dogs were also Chinese Crested, a breed that features a mohawk, bug eyes and a long, wagging tongue.

Have you been looking for an excuse to bring your dog to work? Well today it’s official! Today, June 22 is the ninth annual “Take Your Dog to Work Day,” as declared by the Pet Sitters International.
Not surprisingly, a poll of dog owners by dogster.com and Simply Hired.com found that 49% of respondents would switch jobs to be able to bring their dog to work, and 55% being willing to commute a longer distance.

He made it! Richard Reister the disabled veteran was able to get the money for his dog David’s surgery. Thanks to many dog lovers across the country, Jack will get his $8,000 hip-replacement surgery. What a Memorial Day triumph. But Richard is a proud man and will continue to mow lawns for $10 to pay his bill.

Richard Gere is set to star in a film about the loyal Akita dog HachikÅ, that saw his master off everyday and greeted him every night. When the owner died, the dog continued to go to the train station every evening for 11 years, waiting for his master to return. You can bet it’s going to be a tear-jerker.
A dog who’s a mixed breed mutt, is nursing three newborn tiger cubs in a China zoo. The cubs were rejected by their mother. This dog is no stranger to nursing tiger cubs.

It’s sad that the most common stories I read about dogs involve dog abuse or dogs attacking people or other pets. This week, if no other is the week to be kind to not only your pets, but others pets as well. It is “National Be Kind to Animals Week.” Go out and be kind to animals!
Leave it to Las Vegas to build a luxury hotel for dogs and cats, where an overnight stay can cost anywhere from $29 to $250 per evening. When you want only the very best for Fido.

Mickey, a Boston Terrier got lost four years ago near his home in Missouri. The owners Cher Jarosz and Kari Mitchell searched in vain and finally gave up. Imagine their surprise when he turned up 1100 miles away four years later, wandering around in Montana! He was identified by the micro-chip that was imbedded under his fur. It took so long to get him home because the micro-chip had not been registered, so the local animal shelter that found him contacted the micro-chip manufacturer and were able to track down Mickey’s owners. What a happy ending!
