Stray Dog Rescues Abandoned Baby

In Buenos Aires, Argentina, an 8 year old dog named China found a young baby only a few hours old in a field & rescued it by carrying it 50 meters & placing it with her own litter of six newborn puppies. China’s owner heard the baby crying & found him among the pups covered in a rag several hours later.

The premature baby girl was abandoned by its 14 year old mother. However the mother did reveal herself after the incident made the news, although she is saying very little about what happened.

Authorities say had it not been for China, the baby probably would have died.

Dog Saves Woman From Killer Kangaroo

An elderly woman near Sydney, Australia is lucky to be alive. She was attacked by a large male kangaroo (over 6 feet tall & over 200lbs) when she was walking on her farm. The kangaroo mauled her face, back & hands & she suffered a concussion before her son’s dog rushed to her aid. The dog heard her screaming & chased the kangaroo off. If it hadn’t been for the dog, the woman may have been killed.

Killer Kangaroo? This attack wasn’t the first. Kangaroos have overrun that part of Australia, the males in particular are a nuisance, & people have complained about them for years. Obviously kangaroos are not the cute & cuddly animals we see on TV or in the zoo. WaMu/Washington Mutual (the bank) may want to rethink their latest commercial showing people being safe & secure in a kangaroos pouch!

Pit Bull Gets Honored For Saving Owner

In San Jose, California, Maya the Pit Bull mix saved her owner, Angela Marcelino from being raped. A man pushed Angela back into her home one morning, pushed her to the ground & started choking her. Angela could barely speak but managed to get out a scream.

Maya, hearing the scream rushed into the room & stated biting the assailant. He let go of Angela with one hand to fight off Maya. And Angela managed to grab the man in the crotch & squeeze with all her might. Ouch! :o That got his attention because he let go of Angela & walked out.

Luckily Maya had drawn blood when she bit him & the cops were able to do a DNA match & find the bum.

Hero Dog Saves Family From Fire

We hear stories all the time about heroic animals saving their owners from danger.

Laney, a black Labrador from Portage, IN is a hero after biting her 13 year old owners foot repeatedly in an attempt to wake him up during a fire. The boy was having a sleepover in the basement with 2 friends. Aside from his friends, he was home alone because his parents were at work.

Firefighters arrived about 10 a.m. and found the home’s garage and eaves on fire. The damage was mostly in the attached one-car garage of the home.

The fire, which caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to the home, appeared to have started in an electrical heating unit in the garage.

Without Laney, the outcome could have been tragic. Three cheers for Laney! :)

China Has Its First Guide Dog

Beijing, China has graduated its first guide dog from a training center affiliated with Dalian Medical University in Liaoning. Five dogs total are scheduled to graduate.

Ping Yali, the partially blind former Paralympic athlete is now the proud owner of Lucky (a golden retriever), Beijing’s first guide dog.

It’s going to be alittle difficult for Yali to take advantage of all the help Lucky can provide her because Beijing has regulations against owning large dogs & many large dogs are prohibited from entering bulidings. Plus, the city doesn’t even recognize guide dogs.

A family dog barked to alert the family of a burning home in El Granada, CA. Luckily, the residents got out, but the dog didn’t. He perished in the fire.

Also a dog in San Salvo (Chieti), Italy did the same thing - the dog saved its owners from a fire started due to a defect in the TV plug, but died of smoke inhalation. When the firemen of Vasto (Chieti) arrived they stopped the fire and then found the dog - already dead - in the kitchen.

Both brave dogs gave their lives to save their families.

Animal Heros Honored

I mentioned Toby the Golden Retriever before. He did the Heimlich manuever on his master and saved her from choking. No surprise, he was just honored as “Dog of the Year” by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Toby wasn’t the only heroic pet. There’s Winnie, the “Cat of the Year.” She saved her owners from being overcome by carbon monoxide gas, which could have killed them.
