Dog Auctions Sought To Be Banned in Ohio

Dog auctions in Ohio are primarily where puppy mill owners (commercial breeders who supply pet stores, often under cramped and unhygienic conditions) go to dump unsaleable dogs & buy new ones. The auctions are controversial at best. Rescue organizations frequently take the dogs that do not sell & try to place them in loving homes.

Many puppy mill owners from surrounding States go into Ohio to participate in the auctions. And the number of commercial breeders who have applied for licenses in the State has risen. Several organizations are trying to get the auctions banned.
